Sadri Maksudi Arsal and the Turkish language revolution

This article examines the role of Sadri Maksudi Arsal in the reform of the Turkish language. Sadri Maksudi devoted most of his works to this topic and thus had a significant impact on Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and the Turkish language revolution. One of his main works is the book "Türk Dili için" (For the Turkish language), in which he called for a radical Turkization of Ottoman writing. In our article we will try to reveal in detail the influence of Sadri Maksudi on Ataturk and his circle and analyze what was realized within the framework of the language revolution. In this paper we will also consider the question of how successful Sadri Maksudi’s approach was. Moreover, we are interested in what language Sadri Maksudi himself used, and how much this corresponded to his requirements for Turkization.
