Abstract

This article provides a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the scholarly work of Marina Maratovna Imasheva – Doctor of Sciences (History), Leading Researcher at the Marjani Institute of History of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences. Her works have made a significant contribution to the study of the socio-economic history of the Turkic-Muslim peoples of the Lower Volga region and have revealed many previously unknown facts about the history of the little-studied ethno-territorial group of Astrakhan Tatars within the Tatar nation in the modern period. An analysis of her contribution to the field pf history makes it possible to understand many aspects of the formation and development of this ethno-territorial group of Astrakhan Tatars, their ethnic and confessional identity in the 18th – early 20th centuries, and the particularities of the socio-economic and cultural interaction between representatives of different peoples in the Lower Volga region during this period. M.M. Imasheva’s research interests encompass several key areas, among which, the following stand out in particular: the history of Russian-Asian trade through Astrakhan in the 19th century; issues related to the history of the formation and development of the Astrakhan Tatar ethno-territorial group in the modern period; the history of the Astrakhan urban Tatar community; Islamic institutions in the Astrakhan Governorate in the modern period; interethnic interaction between Tatars and representatives of other Muslim peoples of the Lower Volga region; and others.
