Abstract

The present article introduces into the research field a selection of little-known 17th-century documents kept in the family archive of the military "Mordovian" princes Tenishev, which is deposited in the ancient archives of Kazan. Apparently, these acts represent a certain proportion of the manuscripts transferred in 1879 by the Nizhny Novgorod Scientific Archival Commission to the Society of Archeology, History and Ethnography at Kazan University for their attestation and attribution. The overwhelming majority of the documents presented to the scientific community are written petitions. The documents contain both direct and indirect information about the service, social, legal and financial situation of representatives of the four generations of Muhammad (Mamet) Tenishev´s family, and reflect biographical information and property conflicts that escalated in the last quarter of the 17th century. The texts of the manuscripts are accompanied by an exposition of their informative possibilities and will surely take their place among the key documentary sources of the 17th century.
