    A century ago, in 1922, the Eastern Pedagogical Institute was opened in Kazan - one of the largest centers for training teachers not only for the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, but also for a number of regions of the Middle Volga region. The All-Russian Scientific Conference “Historical Experience in the Training of Pedagogical Personnel in Soviet Russia” was timed to coincide with this anniversary, which took place on October 6, 2022 at the Marjani Institute of History of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences. The subject of discussion at the conference was a whole range of questions concerning the history of the formation of Soviet higher pedagogical education and its role in the training of teachers for Soviet schools. The articles of participants of this scientific event are published in this issue of the journal “From History and Сulture of Peoples of the Middle Volga Region”.

    The fourth issue of the journal “From the History and Culture of the Peoples of the Middle Volga Region” for 2022 publishes materials from the All-Russian Scientific Conference “Peter’s Transformations in the Historical Destinies of the Peoples of Russia”, held in Kazan on September 15–16, 2022. The conference was held as part of the Program “Implementation of the State national policy in the Republic of Tatarstan for 2014–2025” and the Plan of main activities for the preparation and holding in the Republic of Tatarstan of the celebration of the 350th anniversary of the birth of Peter I”. Scientists from Moscow and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Samara, Yekaterinburg, Ufa, Stavropol, Cheboksary, Yoshkar-Ola, Tolyatti, Nizhny Novgorod took part in the work of the scientific forum.

    The first issue of the journal “From the history and culture of the peoples of the Middle Volga region” for 2022 publishes the materials of the scientific forum - XXIV Elisabeth-Sergius Readings “Russian Charity. Traditions and Modernity”, which took place on November 2, 2021 in Kazan. The forum was timed to coincide with the birthday of the Holy Martyr Grand Duchess Elisaveta Feodorovna and was organized by the Elisabeth-Sergius Enlightenment Society Foundation for Promoting the Revival of the Traditions of Mercy and Charity with the support of the Government and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Kazan Federal University.
