Provincial teachers of the pre-reform period (the case of the Menzelinsk city, Orenburg province)

The article presents the case of the county town of Menzelinsk in the first half of the 19th century: the formation of the school system and the staff of the first educational institution − the Menzelinsk county school. For this work, the author mainly used archival documents. Here there is a reconstruction of the working biography of teachers, information about their origin, professional training, and activities outside the school. Teachers were important for the socio-cultural life of the city.
