Abstract

The review presents a description of the content of the monograph devoted to the study of the demographic and social development of the Tatars of the Volga-Ural region based on a comprehensive analysis of statistical information. It emphasizes the high relevance, great scientific and practical significance of the monograph under review, which covers a period of three and a half centuries – from the moment of the fall of Kazan, when migration processes among the subjects of the former Kazan Khanate intensified, until the beginning of the 20th century. The advantages of the monograph and some shortcomings in the interpretation of statistical sources for the disclosure of this complex and multifaceted topic are noted.
