Book review: New-Tatar Cemetery of Kazan. Catalogue of Memorial Graves (Kazan, 2021)

Abstract

Catalog “New-Tatar cemetery of Kazan” is a fundamental publication about one of the ancient necropolis of Kazan, which serves as a national pantheon for Tatars. The book include an essay on the history of the cemetery, biographical information about 720 prominent persons in Tatar history and culture, a name index. The graves of many of the historical figures were considered lost and was rediscovered and identified by the staff of the Marjani Institute of History in the process of studying the necropolis. The publication is based on published and archival sources, field studies and include more than 1,200 photographs and 37 maps.
