Higher and secondary special pedagogical education in Sverdlovsk on the eve of the Great Patriotic War

The article analyzes the peculiarities of teacher training in the pre-war years by the example of the activities of higher and specialized secondary pedagogical institutions of Sverdlovsk in 1939 – the first half of 1941. It is concluded that on the eve of the fascist invasion during the outbreak of the Second World War, the state sought to maximize the training of teachers. In the late 1930s – early 1941, the funding of pedagogical colleges and pedagogical schools increased significantly. Changes in the composition of pedagogical educational institutions of Sverdlovsk are shown: along with the previously existing Sverdlovsk Pedagogical Institute, a teacher's institute of foreign languages appeared, the Russian and Tatar-Bashkir pedagogical colleges were merged into a single pedagogical college named after A.M. Gorky. The system of military training of students has changed. The article shows that since 1939 the influence of political repressions on public life, including in the sphere of public opinion, has significantly decreased compared to 1937–1938.
